Jasper Marmot: Dreamlike scenery and Canada’s highest base station
Canada’s highest base at 1,698 meters makes Marmot Basin especially snow-sure and guarantees a long ski season. Still, there are other reasons to travel to Marmot Basin in Jasper National Park.
„In the middle of the unique nature and landscape of Jasper National Park in Alberta lies Marmot Basin, far away from crowds and lift lines. It is rare to find a place as quiet, beautiful and scenically fascinating as this park in the Canadian Rockies. The diversity of plants and wildlife, frozen lakes and waterfalls, and other natural spectacles give the place something magical. The national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason.
Marmot Basin celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013 and is one of the least populated ski areas in North America. Deserted slopes, a relaxed atmosphere, dry Alberta powder and a long season attract skiers to Marmot from November to May. In addition to the outdoors experience, winter skiing and snowboarding are top priorities. The varied terrain includes groomed runs, tree skiing, alpine runs, wide kettles and gullies. In the terrain park you will find various rail slides, table tops and jumps.
A ski resort with a variety of slopes
Marmot is one of the largest ski resorts in Canada. There are 86 runs for all skill levels, evenly distributed in difficulty. The seven lifts include the „“Canadian Rockies Express““, the longest lift in the Canadian Rockies. Despite the few lifts, there are hardly any queues. The best: families or groups with different skiing abilities can take the same lift and choose different runs, adapted to their own skills, and meet again at the lift station. Advanced skiers can show their tricks in the wide open powder slopes and in the steep gullies in the upper part of the ski area.“
