Skeena Heliskiing: Lots of space, lots of sun, lots of snow
What you can’t find in Skeena’s nearly 10,000 square kilometers of heliski terrain, you can’t find anywhere else: vertical slopes with extreme gradients, powder action and pleasure runs, plus great heliskiing in the huge forests even in less than ideal conditions.
When Giacum Frei returned to his home at the foot of the Skeena Mountain Range in 2003, it quickly became clear: If he didn’t do it, someone else would. So he launched Skeena Heliskiing. Today he is the boss of a team of eight. The guys are bursting with experience and each has his own specialty, safety is a top priority here.
Skeena Heliskiing in Canada – small team, big concern: safety
When you get into the helicopter for the first time and your heart is beating faster and faster, even the best team can’t ease your nervousness, but at least you don’t have to worry about safety and avalanche danger. This job is taken over by the coffee junkie in the team: Lucas Holtzman.
The moment you finally have the first snow under your feet, all worries are finally forgotten. The powder, the weather and the entire Skeena Mountain Range are far too beautiful. From now on there is only one thing to do: go down the mountain!
The small groups make the heliski experience even more intense, even more exclusive. It is an exhilarating feeling to ski the first tracks in the snow. In front of your chest there is nothing but untouched nature and a slope at the sight of which the blood freezes in your veins. But it goes on and on, and in the end you don’t want to stop.
Insider-Tipp
Heliskiing is still not extreme enough? No problem, since a few years there is the Skeena Base Camp. You don’t sleep in a cabin or lodge, you sleep in the camp. The ultimate outdoor experience in heated eco-tents, is the new flagship of Skeena Heliskiing.
