Fernie Wilderness Adventures: Catskiing in the Natural Fun Park

The terrain of the catski provider Fernie Wilderness Adventures is a huge challenging nature fun park that leaves nothing to be desired. At FWA, however, catskiing also becomes an experience due to the special family atmosphere.

Button_ski_kanada_1It all started with fishing. Fernie Wilderness Adventures (FWA) founders Kim and Deb Serovic have been offering fishing trips since 1986, with Kim Serovic leading them as a passionate angler. Serovic has spent his entire life in Elk Valley, so he knows the entire region. In the winter of 1995, the family business expanded its repertoire: catskiing was added.

If you can fish, you can catski

It all started initially with the purchase of a 1960 Snowcat for just three guests. That same year, a tragic setback occurred: the lodge burned down. However, with the help of the community and friends, rebuilding quickly began and catskiing in Fernie Wilderness quickly developed. Word quickly spread about the unique nature of the region, the numerous gorgeous runs, the versatile and challenging terrain, combined with great snow conditions. From 50 guests per season at that time, the number has increased to 1800 catskiers today. It’s a challenge for the small family-run operation, whose owners Kim and Deb Serovic pass on their passion for catskiing, powder and the unique outdoors to their guests.

Fernie Wilderness Adventures is located 20 minutes from Fernie, in the middle of nature, far away from civilization in southeastern British Columbia (BC), Canada. The region is part of the „“powder triangle““, a region known for fresh powder snow. Fernie Wilderness Adventures is a great way to enjoy a big helping of fresh powder while vacationing in Fernie. FWA offers one-day or three-day tickets with flexible lodging: in Fernie, Fernie Ski Resort Village or the FWA Lodge. Usually eight to ten runs are completed per day, which equates to about 3048 to 3658 vertical feet.

Warm-up skiing in Fernie is highly recommended

However, the terrain is not necessarily suitable for beginners. Guests should have some deep snow experience, as technical ability is needed to master the runs. For experts, the terrain with steep ridges, mini half-pipes, pillows and small rock jumps is like a big natural fun park to discover. Who wants to go fishing there?

Insider-Tipp

Let’s go to the Brickhouse for après ski! The brick building is located directly on Main Street and offers great food, a bar with live music and a disco in the basement. There is always something going on here!
