Whitewater Ski Resort: Dive into one of Canada’s best powder ski resorts

In Whitewater, freeride dreams come true. More deep snow than in the Canadian ski resort can hardly be found in any other ski resort in the world. And what a quality of snow!

„Pure simple and real deep““ is the slogan of Whitewater. The resort is the insider tip in southern Canada, surrounded by many catski and heliski operators. It’s located on what’s known as the Powder Highway 15 minutes (19 km) southwest of Nelson, a laid-back, charming ski town in the Selkirk Mountains known for dry, light snow in high volumes: The famous Kootenay Powder. Another plus: it’s rarely very cold in southern BC. In winter, the average temperature is only a few degrees below zero.

Whitewater Ski Resort: Lots of snow, few people

The resort’s philosophy is to retain its charm rather than attract crowds. You won’t find crowded slopes here, but you will get the finest deep snow. And best of all, you don’t even have to share it! Whitewater is located quite remotely in the south of British Columbia (BC) and is not easy to reach. There is the possibility to fly to the small nearby airport Castlegar or to come from Spokane, Washington, from the USA within about three hours to Whitewater. Once you’ve survived the somewhat inconvenient journey, a quiet, easy and relaxed ski resort awaits with plenty of top quality snow: about twelve meters of white gold falls annually. It’s worth it!

A skiing vacation in Whitewater is like a journey back in time

A trip to Whitewater is like stepping back in time. Until 2010, there was only a small ski area with just two lifts. Then the Glory Ridge triple chairlift was built and the area grew to double its size. Currently, there is no lodging at the ski area itself, but Nelson offers an affordable alternative.

Nelson is one of the most lively Ski Towns in North America

There are daily shuttles to and from the resort. Nelson itself is definitely worth a visit! Nelson is a colorful city with many local artists and an alternative culture. You can definitely spend your vacation here if you want to go skiing in Whitewater.

Another plus of the ski area are the fair prices: Cheap lift tickets, child care and a ski school makes Whitewater popular for families as well. Accommodation and meals are also relatively affordable.

Whitewater can be perfectly combined into a ski safari in southern BC with Red Mountain, Fernie and Revelstoke.

Insider-Tipp
